Gwinnett County to hold a public hearing for Ride Gwinnett, formerly Gwinnett County Transit, Service Expansion

February 22, 2022

On Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley, Lawrenceville, GA 30046, the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation will hold a Public Hearing for the expansion of transit service as listed below.

Gwinnett County continues to work toward enhancing mobility options and is taking a phased approach to launch expansion services to residents with three new local fixed routes and two microtransit zones. The new planned expansion service will serve new areas in Snellville, Stone Mountain, Buford, and Suwanee and extend transit coverage in Lawrenceville, Lilburn, and Duluth. This service expansion includes a new local route to Buford (Route 50) from the Sugarloaf Mills Park and Ride located in Lawrenceville through downtown Suwanee, providing customers with access to points of interest such as Mall of Georgia, the Exchange at Gwinnett, and Coolray Field. It will include a new local route in Snellville (Route 70) that will provide service from downtown Snellville to the MARTA Indian Creek Station in Stone Mountain, utilizing Highway 78 and incorporating stops along the corridor in Gwinnett to include the Amazon Distribution Warehouse. The new service will also include a new route to Stone Mountain (Route 25) that will provide service from Gwinnett Place Transit Center in Duluth through Lilburn City Hall to Stone Mountain’s Amazon Distribution Warehouse, providing a connection to the Snellville Route 70.
The new service expansion also includes the addition of microtransit service in Lawrenceville and Snellville/Centerville. Microtransit is an on-demand transit option new to Gwinnett. The planned implementation of microtransit service will provide additional mobility options in Lawrenceville and Snellville/Centerville to better connect these communities to local routes. Gwinnett County piloted the microtransit service in 2018 and 2019 in order to serve areas of the county that do not have enough density to support fixed route transit.
With the new expanded service, 50 percent of Gwinnett residents will have access to the transit services. The proposed expansion is shown in the following map.

The purpose of this public hearing is to provide the public with an opportunity to view the project, ask questions, and comment on the transit expansion.

The public hearing will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center. The public is invited to attend anytime during these hours, and a court reporter will be available to allow the public an opportunity to make verbal comments about the project.
Comments will be accepted for the transit service expansion until 11:59 pm on March 10, 2023, as follows:
