LCID Elects Two New Board Members and Re-Elects Two Board Members

John Souter, the founder and CEO of Comet National Shipping, was re-elected as the secretary and treasurer for LCID. Souter founded Comet National when he was 23, and the service-oriented transportation company was named Entrepreneur Magazine’s 26th “Fastest Growing Small Business in America” in 1995.

Also re-elected as LCID’s vice chairman was Ed O’Connor, senior director of Lavista Associates, Inc. O’Connor has been involved in Atlanta commercial real estate since 1996 and has extensive experience with tenant representation, suburban project leasing and anchor shopping developments.

Newly elected board members include Joe Comonte, general manager of Plaza Las Americas and David Freeman, real estate broker and commercial property owner within LCID. Comonte has been a long-time supporter of LCID, offering up the Plaza Las Americas venue to support the Indian Trail small area study during Lilburn’s National Night Out as well as the LCID informational meetings regarding the Gwinnett Transit Referendum special vote in March 2019. In addition, Freeman’s knowledge of the Atlanta/Lilburn commercial real estate market as well as his private investments within the district, will make him an invaluable asset to the LCID board.

“I am truly excited for the future of Lilburn CID, with John Souter and Ed O’Connor being re-elected, and the addition of Joe Comonte and David Freeman, the district is in fine hands,” expressed Emory Morsberger, LCID executive director. “I have the utmost confidence in these incredible folks to continue the growth Lilburn has been experiencing and take the CID to the top.”

The board also voted to approve an expansion of $10 million in additional commercial property within the CID to include properties on Indian Trail and Azalea Road, and is awaiting final approval from the City of Lilburn and Gwinnett County.

Spotlight on Taylor & Mathis

LCID welcomes its newest and largest member to the CID, Taylor & Mathis, a privately-held commercial real estate company specializing in suburban office parks, office buildings and industrial parks.

Taylor & Mathis is developing the 351,700-square foot Indian Trail Distribution Center expected to be complete by August 2019. The development has been so popular that only 94,000 square feet remain for potential tenants.

Only eight miles from I-285 and three miles from I-85, Taylor & Mathis chose to develop in the LCID because of its accessibility to Atlanta’s top corridor. The development company defined Atlanta as one of the top five industrial markets in the country with Lilburn being one of the top 10 submarkets.

“Joining the CID allows us to be part of an organization that can leverage costs in conjunction with government grants to benefit everyone with improvements to security, road repair and lawn maintenance,” said Hamilton Reynolds, industrial division president. “And as part of the future freight and transit study, we hope to help figure out a more economical and efficient way to move across metro Atlanta without further impairing existing traffic.”

Hope Springs Distillery Boasts New Signage

LCID member and local spirit maker Hope Springs Distillery unveiled new signage on the corner of Main Street and Railroad Avenue earlier this year. Customers can now more easily navigate through downtown Lilburn and locate the hometown business.

Allen and Betsey Dahlberg opened Hope Springs Distillery in 2017 and in addition to producing vodka, gin and absinthe, the location offers tours and tastings.
